Warning: spoilers abound!
I’m going to keep this short and sweet. This movie was an excellent conclusion to the “Fear Street” trilogy. We learn the truth: Sarah Fier was never responsible for the curse on Shadyside, she was just a scapegoat. The one truly responsible was the Goode family. As in the family the sheriff of 1994 is part of. Which makes his jerk actions to the kids in the first movie make a whole lot more sense.
So, the truth behind Shadyside’s curse is that the Goode family offers up a sacrifice to the devil every few years. These sacrifices then become infamous Shadyside mass killers through no fault of their own. Honestly, this twist is exactly the kind of thing I would expect from a Fear Street book. It’s very on brand and I love it for that.
Of course we get a happy ending after Deena, from the 1994 movie, kills Sheriff Goode. Thus lifting the curse from Shadyside and allowing its citizens to better their lives without the devil getting in the way. And of course we get an end credits moment of a mysterious pair of hands nabbing the evil book the Goodes had been using all these centuries. Which I was totally expecting because Fear Street always had some kind of sinister undertone at the end, even if it never gets followed up on.
And just like the last review, all my praise for this movie is essentially the same for the first one. It captures the essence of what it’s like to read Fear Street. So… there’s not much to really add here. I loved this trilogy. I will most definitely be watching it again.
