Warning: spoilers abound!
I have to say, this is probably the best season so far. Seriously, I devoured the whole thing in like a day. Only eight episodes, so that wasn’t too much of a challenge, but still.
Other than the fact that Chloe and Lucifer finally (finally!) officially become a couple (though we do have to wait a bit), we’ve got a new antagonist on the scene: Lucifer’s twin brother Michael! And, oh my god, I love him so much. Michael’s a manipulative asshole who may or may not have been behind Lucifer’s devilish ideas in the past. On top of that, Michael may have clawed his way to power in heaven. If all that’s true, Michael is way, way worse than Lucifer and I love it!
Ok, I’ll admit Michael’s motivations are kind of weird. I guess he’s down on Earth to prove Lucifer hasn’t changed or… something? I don’t know, I’m guessing it’s supposed to be some sort of sibling rivalry thing.
Anyway, back to Chloe and Lucifer. Though we have to wait for more than half the episodes for the officialness to happen, the payoff is so worth it! They become a couple and this weird thing happens where Chloe basically steals one of Lucifer’s powers and is able to use it on him. (The power is his desire shtick thing - I don’t think I’ve mentioned it in past reviews because I couldn’t describe it in a way that doesn’t sound… ridiculous. You kinda have to watch the show to know what I’m talking about).
So, after that weirdness, there’s this whole intense serial killer case that Lucifer manages to solve while Chloe is off being kidnapped by Michael. …Maybe change the order of that. But, ooh, I love all of it so much! And, while kidnapped, Michael plays on Chloe’s fears and makes her doubt whether or not Lucifer loves her because he’s never actually said the words, “I love you”. Which was probably Michael’s plan all along since he made it real easy for Chloe to get rescued.
After Chloe’s rescued, she finally confronts Lucifer to ask if he really loves her. And right as Lucifer’s about to say the words - Ok, this is the best part. Are you ready? You sure? Ok. Just as Lucifer is about to say those three magical words,
Time stops!
Who stopped time? Amenadiel, the other angel on earth who’s also the father of a half-angel baby. Why’d he stop time? He freaked out about his kid being mortal - prompted by Michael, of course. But that’s beside the point. What happens next is so awesome!
Lucifer and Amenadial team up to fight the team up between Michael and a demon side character. Time stopped, supernaturals fighting at full force with angel wings on display! Yes! This is awesome!
And then God shows up, in person, to stop the fighting!
God is on the scene! I repeat, God is on the scene! This is not a drill!
Man, I can’t wait to watch the rest of-
alt text for screen readers: There's no release date yet for when Lucifer season 5, part 2 will arrive on Netflix. Back in March, production on the final episodes of Lucifer season 5 was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic so it's likely that the second batch of season 5 episodes won't arrive until 2021 since the season still needs to be finished.
